How To Prepare For An Estate Sale
Contact A Company Early
The earlier you reach out to an estate sale company, the more time there is to plan a successful sale. Estate sale companies are often booked weeks to months in advance. It takes time to sort, stage, research, price, and clean out the house. If you're working around a real estate closing, move, or probate timeline, scheduling early helps ensure everything stays on track.
Schedule a Consultation
Our process always begins with an in-home consultation. During our visit, we’ll walk through the property together, discuss your goals, and explain how our process works. Getting our eyes on the property and it’s contents help us determine the best way to approach the sale. Our consultations are always free, and we are able to do them alone if you are out of state.
Leave Everything As It Is
This is the most important piece of advice we can give. It may sound surprising, but one of the best things you can do is leave the home exactly as it is. Many families think they are being helpful by donating or throwing away “unwanted items”. Items that may seem old, outdated, or insignificant can often have surprising value. As cliche as it sounds, one person’s trash very well could be another person’s treasure.
Decide What You/Your family are Keeping
Take your time going through the contents of the home to remove any personal items or sentimental heirlooms. Make sure that all family members have had a chance to thoroughly look at everything and take what they want. If any items are removed after signing the contract, our bid may be affected.
Let the professionals handle the sale
Our team manages every aspect of the sale, allowing you to focus on your family instead of worrying about the details.
Have a plan for remaining unsold items
Even the most successful sales have items left unsold at the end of a sale. Before hiring a company, discuss your options with them. Some companies include the clean-out with their bid while other companies may charge additional fees.
Preparing for an estate sale doesn't mean doing everything yourself. In fact, one of the best ways to prepare is simply to decide what you're keeping and then leave the rest to experienced professionals. A well-organized estate sale can help families simplify a major life transition, maximize the value of household belongings, and prepare a property for its next chapter.
If you're considering an estate sale, we're here to guide you through every step of the process. From the initial consultation to the final cleanup, our goal is to make the experience as smooth, organized, and stress-free as possible.
